Professor of Economics Akhil Rao discusses with our hosts the connection between environmental protection and space exploration, economic incentives to keep space accessible, and the undeveloped country of cis-lunar space..
Akhil Rao is an Assistant Professor of Economics and affiliate faculty in the Environmental Studies Program at Middlebury College. He teaches courses on statistics, environmental economics, and space economics. Most of Akhil’s research is on coupled-systems modeling and the economics of orbit use. He is particularly interested in the challenges and opportunities created by the lack of exclusive property rights over orbital paths and in building integrated models of orbit-use behaviors.
Akhil received a BS in Business Administration in 2012 from the University of California, Riverside, an MA in Economics in 2016 from the University of Colorado Boulder, and a PhD in Economics in 2019 from the University of Colorado Boulder.
